WASHINGTON, D.C. – Towns in Larimer and Weld counties saw some of the highest population growth in the state from 2007 to 2008, according to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Mead was the fastest growing municipality in the state, based on population estimates from July 1, 2008. The town’s population grew 8.4 percent to 3,408 in one year. Other high-growth towns include Firestone with a 6.4 percent increase; Frederick at 4.7 percent; Severance at 6 percent, Wellington at 4.8 percent and Windsor at 4.6 percent.

Northern Colorado’s larger cities also saw year-over-year growth. Loveland’s population grew 2 percent to 65,587. Fort Collins also grew 2 percent to 136,509. Greeley’s 1.8 percent growth put it with an estimated population of 91,492.

Colorado’s population rose almost 2 percent from 2007 to 2008. Thornton, Aurora and Denver landed in the top 25 fastest growing cities with populations over 100,000.
