Vestas breaks ground on Weld County site

BRIGHTON – A 175-acre site, soon to be annexed into the city of Brighton, will be home to wind turbine blade and nacelle factories slated to begin operation in 2010. The 205,000-square-foot nacelle site will employ 700 and produce 1,400 units per year at full capacity. A nacelle is a school bus-sized pod to which the blades are attached that contains gearboxes, generators and transformers.

The 360,000-square-foot blade factory will employ 650 and produce 2,000 blades per year at full capacity. It will be the company’s second blade facility in the United States. The first opened in Windsor a year ago and currently employs 400 with the potential for 650 employees at full capacity.
