Posting your rentals on Craigslist

Do you advertise your apartments for rent on Craigslist? How many times have you had to change the method of your postings? Have you found that you publish your rental, only to realize that it never went public on Craigslist?

As one of the most popular and cost effective forms of marketing “For Rent” ads in today’s market, Craigslist has been great. It has also been a source of frustration and abuse. Publishers on Craigslist have to stay on top of the posting criteria and be ready for changes – I know I had to.

There is a good article about how to post on Craigslist by Kayla Devon on Multifamily Executive online. Kayla gives good advise and guidelines on how to make the most of your posts and avoid getting “ghosted” (this is when you post, but it doesn’t actually show up on Craigslist). Some of the basic suggestions are:

1. Don’t spam your posts
2. Be sure to use the same computer whenever possible
3. Change up your content between posts
4. Load up on Keywords
5. Use easy to remember URLs
6. Visual aids – Use quality photos
